Weekly Weather Watch

THE LATEST UPDATE:

Weekly Weather Watch: Tuesday, February 27th, 2024

Forgive my delay in the weather watch for this week; let’s get right to it. Here are those weather events that will be making headlines this week.

  • Heavy snow over parts of the Upper Mississippi and the Cascades to Central Rockies on Tuesday. Ahead of that system may be severe (damaging) thunderstorms for parts of the Ohio Valley to the Great Lakes. For those in Colorado, the cold front races through - those details I already posted to Weather5280 for you.

  • Heavy snow for the Cascades and Northern Rockies on Wednesday. Moderate snow over the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast Wednesday.

  • Alaska will get hit with very cold temperatures later this week through the weekend.

  • For Hawaii, high pressure to the north will keep the trades in place with normal precipitation.

  • For Canada, heavy precipitation and snowfall for the eastern provinces through late week, with dangerous cold for the central and western provinces through mid-week.

  • Heavy precipitation for the central Gulf Coast and Southeast early next week.

  • Another risk of high winds for the Central Plains, Upper Midwest, and Great Lakes next week.

Here is a storm animation showing the flow during the week.

What will the precipitation totals be? Here is that total moisture for the week, and there are some impressive totals headed to the West Coast and Southeast.

Of that total moisture, here are the estimated snowfall totals.

Some of that snowfall for Colorado was actually graupel this morning. Graupel is one of my favorite types… little dip’n dots.

In all, here are the hazards summarized for the week:

No, not really a major temperature impact for the States at this time; most of that cold stays in Alaska and Canada this week.

A client requested the following status check of snowfall for the season to date. I figured, why not show it to you too? Snowfall reports from each dot through the 20th are then calculated into a percentage of normal snowfall for the season through the 20th. If we stopped snowfall now, Kansas will win in terms of percentage surplus.

I’ll leave by saying thank you to the Beef Farmers of Ontario, who had me present the weather outlook at their annual meeting last week. Here’s to a great week ahead! Blessings, Matt.
